Bonded laborers known as Harwacharwa staged a demonstration in Janakpur of Dhanusha on April 11 demanding rehabilitation. The government declared that their loans were dismissed on July 18, 2022. Along with this announcement, the government also promised to rehabilitate Haruwacharuwa according to the 'Mukt Kamaiya Kamalari Mukt Halia, Haruwacharuwa Status Study Report' prepared under the leadership of analyst Shyam Shrestha. This report suggested to the government that after collecting the data on Haruwacharuwa, the government should give them identity cards, coordinate with the Land Commission and give them land or their residence. However, even after 9 months, Harwacharwa protested that the government did not show interest in rehabilitation.
