Lilam Devi Mahato, a 24-year-old resident of Motipur in Kaudena Rural Municipality-5, was subjected to physical assault by her husband, Vinod Mahato (26), and her father-in-law, Jogindra Mahato (52), on May 24, 2023.

Ramkishore Mahato, the victim's father who is 47 years old, stated that the accused individuals physically attacked his daughter and subjected her to domestic violence because she did not bring one lakh rupees in cash and an Indian motorcycle as dowry. He added that the beating resulted in injuries to her left leg and hand.

Mr. Mahato mentioned that his daughter received initial medical treatment from May 25  to 27 at Sarlahi District Hospital in Malangwa, after which she was transferred to Janakpur for further treatment.

The victim and her husband, Vinod Mahato, were married on the May 1, 2018 following Hindu traditions.

The victim's father  accused the accused individuals of assaulting his daughter for not providing a larger dowry, despite already giving two lakhs of rupees, one tola of gold, furniture, and other items during the marriage.
