Five months of jail for thrashing a woman blaming her of witchcraft in Banke

 District Court sentenced Tara Kami of Naubasta VDC-7 to five months in prison on the charges of physically abusing 32year-old Chandra BK of the same place on the charges of being a witch. District Judge Ammar Raj Poudel, on January 4, made the decision adding Rs 25,000 as bail, defending lawyer Sunil Shrestha informed. Chandra’s husband Dhirendra had filed an FIR of attempted murder against three including Tara at Kohalpur Area Police Office on August 9 saying they had assaulted his wife accusing her of being a witch on August 7. Police arrested the three on August 7. Chandra was treated at Teaching Hospital, Kohalpur. On September 1, the court remanded Tara in custody while the other two accused Shashi BK and Laxmi Kami were released on the bail deposit of Rs 10,000 each.
