District Court Kavre today sentenced a man, who had raped his daughter, to 18-years imprisonment along with compensation payment of Rs 2 lakh for the victim. A single bench of district judge Gopal Prasad Bastola announced the verdict sentencing Prakash Karki, 47, of Subbagaun in Panauti municipality-2. According to court registrar Hiranya Prasad Bhandari, the accused was sentenced for rape and incest and the cash amount as compensation for the victim. The incident had come to the fore after the victim attempted to commit suicide by poisoning herself after writing a suicide note saying she had been raped several times by her own father in a forest in Dhulikhel on August 16. She had been raped on that day too. According to sources, the victim lodged a complaint at Rakshya Nepal, an NGO, seeking protection and justice saying that she had been raped by her grandfather a year before the incident. The girl had been physically exploited by her father, who used to threaten her, for the last five years after he returned from abroad. The victim had lodged a complaint at District Police Office Kavre with the help of Rakshya Nepal on August 18. The accused was held as per the complaint of August 24. The victim’s grandfather committed suicide by poisoning himself on the night of August 25, one day after the girl filed a case against her father at the District Police Office.
