Jumla woman succumbs to labor pain

2015-02-07

Karnali, Jumla, Patrasi, Ward 5

A woman from Lorpa of Dillichaur-2 in the district has died of excessive bleeding after giving birth to a child. Because of lack of road connection to the district headquarters, she could not be taken to the teaching hospital at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences. Lal Shova (23) had been suffering from labour pain for three days, but was brought to the Dillichaur Sub-Health Post on the fourth day. Although, she delivered the baby, the Sub-Health Post had no medicine to stop excessive bleeding which she later succumbed to, said ANM Shova Khada at the Sub-Health Post. She was referred to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences based in the district headquarters. But there was no road link to take Shova immediately to the hospital. As many as 37 deliveries have been conducted at the birthing centre of the Sub-Health Post since July, while eight were referred to the district headquarters for better treatment.
