Rautahat land revenue office padlocked

2015-02-16

Madhes, Rautahat, Gaur

Protesting against the government’s recent decision to set up service centres of land revenue, land reform and survey offices at Chandrapur, Nepal Lekhapadhi Kanoon Byabasayee Association Rautahat today padlocked the District Land Revenue Office in Gaur indefinitely. The association said in a statement that they had to resort to protest against the government decision, saying it was compelling the district folks to stay away from district headquarters Gaur as a part of the anti-Madhes conspiracy. “Why set up service centres only in Chandrapur? If the sub-branch offices are established in all six constituencies of the district, it will be more convenient for people,” argued Chairman of the association Rajendra Prasad Shah. As the decision was made only for Gaur and the decision was made unilaterally, it is an anti-Madhes conspiracy, he said. Shah demanded that the offices of District Forest Office, District Ayurved Health Centre, Land conservation, Appellate Court, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority based in Chandrapur should be transferred to Gaur.

The unilateral decision of the government is shocking and against the wishes of Rautahat folks, he argued. Local Madhes-centred parties also have expressed their solidarity with the ongoing protest. Daily business in offices has been affected. Meanwhile, Chief of Land Revenue Office Sikindra Sah, said it was a policy level decision of the state, but it would not come into effect immediately. “The association padlocked the office without clear acknowledgement of the state’s decree, which has adversely affected a large number of service seekers,” said Sah. Meanwhile, Rautahat Assistant Chief District Officer Ram Raj Subedi said that Chief Land Revenue Officer Sah was directed to create conducive atmosphere to unlock the office. Meanwhile, Kalaiya folks have been protesting against the decision to set up service centres of land revenue and survey office in Simara for four days. During a scuffle there, 23 security personnel and 15 agitators were injured. Normalcy returned after the government withdrew the decision today.
