(Update) Police have made public a man on February 24 who is accused of trying to murder a 7-year-old girl after raping her. SP Lokendra Bahadur Malla said that Kanhaiya Gupta, 28, of Kalaiya Municipality-4 was arrested on February 22 and the District Court granted the police seven days to hold him in custody for investigation. Police said that the accused has confessed to the crime. The girl went missing on February 20 while playing in the market place. She was found naked and unconscious at a dumping site in Kalaiya Municipality-6, raped and brutalized on February 21. SP Malla quoted the accused as saying that he was under the influence of alcohol when he carried out the act. The girl is undergoing treatment at the ICU of Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu. The family has made a verbal complaint to the police. Laxmi Sah Sonar
