Dr KC begins fast-unto-death for the fifth time

 Claiming that the government failed to implement past agreements signed with him, Dr. Govinda KC of the Institute of Medicine (IoM), Tribhuvan University began an indefinite hunger strike for the fifth time. The senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on March 12 had served a 10-day ultimatum to the concerned government bodies to fulfill his demands. "As the demands were not met in the period," Dr. KC said at a press conference organized to declare the latest round of his protest at TUTH today, "I am forced to begin the fast-unto-death today." He accused the government of ignoring the implementation of the commitments made with him. "The medical education scenario has deteriorated further and the reason behind it is lack of policy," he said. Last year alone he staged fast-unto-death twice. His last hunger strike was on February 8 last year after 'the government did not show any sign of addressing the demands' put forward by him.
