A massive fire that broke out in Taplejung district headquarters has destroyed 35 houses and displaced 90 families, initial reports of the damage caused by the fire showed. The fire was contained on Tuesday morning with the help of two fire engines from Ilam and Jhapa districts. Strong winds had derailed overnight efforts from locals and security personnel to douse the fire that broke out from Purbeli Hotel in Takme Danda on Monday evening. Some houses were demolished to stop the fire from spreading further. Chief District Officer Damar Prasad Niraula informed that the displaced families have taken shelter in a community building and relief materials were provided to them. CDO Niraula said that the full scale of the damage caused by the fire will be made public soon.

UPDATE:: A total of 18 families have been displaced from the fire in Phulili. The fire has affected 465 people. According to Damru Prasad Niraula, chairman and chief officer of the Impact Disaster Management Committee, 35 people have lost  37 houses in the fire. 7 houses were destroyed to stop the fire from further spreading. The details about how the fire started are yet to come after further investigation. Home Minister Bamdev Gautam is the official security officer to inspect the fire area.
