Looting of relief materials on the rise in Dolakha

 In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake while many people have been rendered homeless, deprived of food and are suffering, some people in and around the affected districts have resorted to looting and robbing of relief materials that are being sent for the real victims of the earthquake. Incidents of disputes and fights over distribution of relief materials are also being reported. In Charikot and other villages incidents of theft in the damaged houses have also been increasing. Relief materials collected by politicians, professionals, citizens, well wishers and different organizations are being looted on the way before they can reach Dolakha district which is one of the places most affected by Saturday's devastating earthquake. Of the fifty six thousand total households in Dolakha district, fifty thousand have been damaged or badly affected. Due to insecurity, security forces are being used to escort the relief materials bound for the district. Lootings by different groups are mostly rife in the highways of Kavrepalanchwok and Sindhupalchowk district from which the vehicles carrying relief materials has to pass to reach Dolakha. Even after reaching the district they are being stored in the Army's barrack due to fear of being robbed in the district itself. Only recently, Of the 400 sacks of rice bound for the victims in Singati, 91 sacks were looted despite the presence of security forces in Banchare of Lamidanda. Similarly relief materials being sent to the victims of rural areas in the district have been looted on the way. Police inspector Shanta Bahadur Lama informed that only recently relief materials that were bound for Jafe VDC was robbed on the way in Jhule VDC.
