After monitoring relief distribution in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Kavrepalanchowk, the National Human Rights Commission has concluded that people residing near the highway and roadside have received more relief materials than the people in the remote areas. An NHRC team led by member Prakash Wasti monitored rescue and relief operations in the three districts. The commission has also stated that the real earthquake victims had not received proper relief package in the lack of coordination between the government agencies, political parties and civil society. The NHRC team also found that some relief packages had unnecessary items. The monitoring has also found that a very low number of tents and tarpaulin have been distributed to the quake victims. The commission has also urged the government to think about distributing metal roofing sheets to the victims rather than focusing on distributing tents and tarpaulin only. "Random visits of unwanted monitoring and observation teams as well as presence of unwanted officials have also disturbed the relief distribution process," stated the NHRC. Likewise, NHRC has found that the relief packages have been distributed to house owners only in the district headquarters and not to tenants. The commission has also urged the government to take measures to prevent an epidemic outbreak. Likewise, the NHRC has drawn attention of the government toward taking necessary steps to control damage from landslide and land erosion in the aftermath of earthquake. Meanwhile, another NHRC team led by member Sudeep Pathak has reached Barpak of the Gorkha district, the epicenter of the April 25 earthquake. Likewise, another team led by NHRC member Gobinda Sharma Paudyal will visit Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu for monitoring soon.
