The survivors of the April 25 and May 12 quakes have complained of not receiving any kind of relief until now. They said that the relief including the tarpaulins was distributed in the district headquarters only and that there was no government monitoring over the distribution. The locals of a remote VDC Makalu have not received anything, Ashok Chapagain, a local teacher informed. Meanwhile, the locals in Khandbari, the district headquarters have complained of political bias in the distribution of relief. Tek Bahadur Magar, the chairperson of Sangam Settlement Development Organization in Khadbari Municipality said that despite the recommendation for registering them as having the houses completely damaged, they were recorded as only partially damaged. Khandbari Municipality-7’s Civil Forum chairperson Pabitra Dahal called on to expand the focus of relief distribution to the rural areas too. They claimed that whenever the villagers call at the District Administration asking for relief including tarps, they are asked about their political affiliation. The April 25 quake has damaged 923 houses completely and 1822 houses partially. District Disaster Relief Center informed that 16 houses imposing threats to passers by and nearby houses have been demolished. The report shows 150 government houses, schools and organizations were damaged but the locals claim that the real number could be higher.
