The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) officials and journalists of various media organizations staged a two-hour-long sit-in protest at the Himalayan Television and Avenues Television Office to express their solidarity to the demands of the working journalist s, on Tuesday. The working journalists associated with the television channels have been organizing the sit-in protest demanding that they should be paid the salary payable to them.
FNJ President Mahendra Bista, FNJ officials as well as journalists associated with various media organizations participated in the protest. Following the sit-in protest, the concerned television operators are reported to have expressed their readiness to hold talks and settle the issue. Talking to journalists after the sit-in protest at the Avenues Television Office premises, President Bista said the FNJ joined the protest for securing the rights of the working journalist s and that no talks will be held with the Television operators until the arrears were cleared. Bista said, "The media houses could no more be the places for exploiting the labor of journalists. There would be no difference if such media houses were not operated."
Similarly, coordinator of the Revolutionary Journalists' Association Govinda Acharya, General Secretary of the Press Chautari Nepal Madhav Nepal, and Treasurer of the Nepal Press Union Sarojraj Adhikari expressed commitment to the protest on the occasion. They said the media organizations would support any protest organized by the victim journalists.
