Appellate court in Nepalgunj sentences murder convict to life term imprisonment

Declaring him guilty in the murder of his own wife Rukmani Shah, the appellate court of Nepalgunj has sentenced Mahendra Bahadur Shahi of Karkado to life in prison. Mahendra Bahadur, a resident of Karkado who hails from Bishala-4 in Dailekh forced his wife Rukmani to take poison (Sulfas) on May 9, 2008. Rukmani who fell seriously ill following the consumption of the poison died on the way while she was being taken for treatment in Lucknow. After her death, her brother Jaya Narayan Shah lodged a complaint against Mahendra in the police. A bench of justice Sekhar Poudel of District court Banke gave Mahendra clean chit in the case. Stating the district court's verdict unsatisfactory the office of government lawyer appealed against the case in the appellate court in Nepalgunj. A bench of justice Ram Krishna Khanal and Yamuna Bhattarai issued a verdict sentencing Mahendra to life in prison.
