The Pokhara regional office of the Commission of the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested an account officer and an accountant at the Gandaki Transport Office in Pokhara on corruption charges on Tuesday. The transport officers have been accused of accepting bribe from service seekers.
The CIAA caught account officer Govinda Prasad Baral and accountant Hari Sharma in possession of Rs 10,000 offered to them as bribe by a service seeker.
The officers had sought financial favour to issue a bill-book for a private car of one Tek Bahadur Baruwal of Lamachaur, Pokhara, and the owner of Pokhara, Nayabazar-based Tri Shakti Motor Parts. Baruwal had deposited Rs 24,000 as the annual tax for his car, Ba 2 Cha 8558 on April 16. Despite that the officers asked him to collect the bill-book the next day. Baruawl, in his complaint, said during his several visits to the office to collect his vehicle registration book, the officers didn’t issue his bill-book saying that it had been misplaced.
Baruwal said that the officer duo had demanded Rs 20,000 initially. However, he only gave them Rs 10,000.
