Police opened fire in Jumla district during a protest demanding undivided Karnali zone on Tuesday. The agreement between major political parties to federate the country into six provinces with the tentative demarcation of state border ignited protests in the district. President of Construction Entrepreneurs Association, Jumla, Raj Bahadur Mahat, was injured after he sustained a bullet in his arm.
Police fired 18 rounds of bullets—14 in the morning and four in the afternoon—to contain the situation. The demonstrators vandalised the district offices of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist). Police fired blank shots into the air this morning after the agitators started vandalising NC office. The protestors have picketed the district administration office. The entire market place has been shut down. Police opened fire in the central market place this afternoon. Nepali Congress led the first day of the protest, UML took the leadership on the second day and the UCPN (Maoist) is taking the lead today.
