Normal life in Terai affected due to bandh organized by Tharus

Tharu groups affiliated with different parties have imposed bandh throughout the 22 districts of Terai protesting the 6-state model of federalism recently proposed by the four major parties. Issuing a press release on Tuesday Tharuhat/Tharuwan United Struggle Committee announced that it would launch a general strike in the districts of Terai until Shrawan 32. The protesters from Tharu community have demanded that districts like Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur be placed under a separate Tharu state. Normal life in Dang and districts around it has been affected due to bandh. Transportation service, Schools, colleges, hospitals, banks and shops remain closed. The week-long bandh is predicted to make a normal life in the mid-western region very difficult.
