Karnali, Jumla, Chandannath

The general strike in Jumla demanding a separate Karnali state has entered into 10th day with the local administration still clamping curfew in the district. The curfew, lifted for two hours in the morning, was brought into effect from 8 am. Chief District Officer Dipendra Raj Poudel informed the curfew was enforced as the protestors have not stopped vandalism and violent demonstration in the district. Protests were organised this morning when the curfew was lifted for two hours. A clash also occurred at the bus park area but no injuries were reported in the incident. Meanwhile, police personnel stationed at various small stations across the district have left for district headquarters after agitating locals picketed and even vandalised the police offices in the district. DSP Bishnu Hari Koirala said that the police personnel were called to district headquarters after they were forced away from their duty stations. “They have been called to district headquarters after reports of vandalism and picketing. There are only two options before them, either to shoot the protestors or move to district headquarters,” he said. DSP Koirala also said that the move to recall all personnel to district headquarters was also aimed at tightening the security situation.
