Residents of Bheri Karnali celebrate victory rally after 7-province deal

2015 Locals of Karnali region took out a victory rally in Jumla on Saturday, hailing the decision of major political parties to include all five districts of Karnali zone in the proposed province No. 6. They also thanked the political leaders for addressing their demands. Local people along with leaders and supporters of various political parties in the region had been agitating for 12 days, demanding that the region should be split from the Far-West and be declared an autonomous state. Bir Bahadur Kunwar, district chairman of the UCPN (Maoist), said that the political parties have shown their respect to the people of the region by addressing their demands. In Mugu and Dailekh also welcomed the announcement with celebration in their respective district headquarters. In Salyan, the indeterminate bandha imposed by District Chamber of Commerce and political parties has been withdrawn and shops and educational institutions reopened. In Jajarkot the ongoing agitation and banda has been called off following the agreement on Friday on a new seven-province model. People organising lighting of candles here last evening to celebrate the new proposal. As a result, things have got back to normalcy, with transportation service resuming since early this morning. Markets have opened too, and the schools will resume classes from Sunday, according to Rajendra Bikram Shah of the Joint Agitation Mobilization Committee. The district headquarters had come to a standstill for more than a week, as a result of civil agitation against the proposal to include Jajarkot in the far-west province.
