Eight, including three security personnel injured in Eastern Rukum

(Updated)--As many as five demonstrators and three police personnel were injured after a clash erupted between protesters and security personnel in Khalanga of Rukum today. The district dwellers have been protesting for the last 16 days demanding inclusion of the district in Province No 5 in a new federal model. As the agitation reached its climax and the situation went out of control, the local administration clamped curfew orders from yesterday until the next order in the district headquarters. The clash erupted between protesters and police personnel after demonstrators defied the curfew order. The injured are receiving treatment at the local Community Hospital.

(Update)--Protesters obstructed vehicle movement in the district headquarters, Khalanga, on Sunday bringing normal life in the district to a grinding halt. Even government offices remain closed in the district headquarters. Tek Bahadur Pun, the coordinator of the struggle committee formed to press for their demands, said they had also organized a torch rally on Saturday night. Following violent protests, the DAO has declared all government offices, including the District Development Committee (DDC), DPO, and DAO, among others, prohibited areas, according to DSP Thapaliya.

(Updated)--Locals of Rukum, who have been demonstrating for the last 16 days to include the district in province no 5, have withdrawn their protest programme from today. United Rukum Protest Committee has rolled back the protest programme saying that the daily life of district dwellers had been affected due to the long strikes. The committee said that other pressure programme would be continued in the district. According to coordinator Tek Bahadur Pun of the committee, a signature collection campaign in all the VDCs, interaction programme at the district level, among others, would be launched.
