NHRC Appeals against Communal Hate Speech

2015-09-08

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a statement on September 7 expressing concern over the ‘Non-cooperation agitation;’ called upon by Joint Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (JLMM) and Rastriya Muslim Sangharsha Alliance (RMSA). The call was made by these two fronts through a press release on September 3. NHRC, in its statement, urged for all not to make expression of communal hate speech. The statement by JLMM and RMSA had called on the home owners to evict all the police personnel renting their rooms within 48 hours, to vacate all the police units and stations and to boycott them socially. The statement tantamount to the expression of communal hate and violation of the professional forces’ right to work and residence and was objectionable in the human rights perspective, NHRC statement added. Such statement is against the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and against the humanitarian laws. NHRC urges all concerned political parties and related sides to refrain from expressing such hateful speech and to ensure human rights by expanding social harmony”, the statement said. NHRC has also cautioned against any kind of brochures, pamphlets and statements that disrupt the social and professional harmony. Ramesh Prasad Timalsina
