District Administration Siraha has declared the highway area in the district as prohibited zone from Thursday afternoon until next notice, after clashes occurred between protesters and police. Chief District Officer of Siraha Man Bahadur Bishwokarma informed that 500 metres on the either side of the East-West highway from Balan Khola in the east to Kamala River in the west have been declared a prohibited zone from 12 pm today until next notice. Meanwhile, the protesters have been staging their agitation at Lahan bazaar. They burnt tyre in the market area among other places. Earlier, on Wednesday a clash ensued between the police and demonstrators after the latter tried to obstruct the East-West highway by cutting a tree and placing in the middle of the road. Eight protesters and nine police personnel were injured during yesterday’s clash.
