Photo journalist Ashok Maharjan has been injured after being hit by stones pelted by Hindu activists at police in New Baneshwor on Monday.
Irate Hindu activists staged demonstration in Baneshwor yesterday after the CA declared Nepal a secular state. Police resorted to laathi charge and used water cannons at the Hindu activists after they dismantled the barricades and tried to enter the prohibitory area near the CA building. The Hindu activists in turn pelted stones at the police. They also vandalized a vehicle belonging to the UNDP. Journalist maharjan's camera and lens were damaged in the incident. Similarly cameras belonging to photo journalists Prakash Mathema and Nabhes Chitrakar associated with AFP and Reuters were also damaged after being tossed with water cannon.
Photo journalist Bikash Dware of Gorkhapatra among other was also injured during the incident. Photo Journalist's Club of Nepal has condemned the attack on the journalists by both the activists and the police and has demanded proper investigation into the incident. It has also demanded proper treatment and compensation for the photo journalists who were affected during the incident.
