2015-10-05

Province 1, Morang, Biratnagar

A clash erupted between security personnel and Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha supporters at the Jogbani border point of Biratnagar after police tried to remove the protesters who have been staging sit-in protests from their place around midnight on Sunday. Several morcha supporters have been injured, according to Morcha leaders. District Police Spokesperson DSP Pramod Kharel informed that the police had to fire two rounds of bullets in the air to take the situation under control. Likewise, the police have also detained Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal Central Committee members, Bhuraj Rai and Ram Bilas Yadav.

Earlier in the day, a meeting of the officials at the Indian and Nepali customs office had agreed to let the goods carriers and fuel tankers enter Nepal by removing the obstruction. After the police scattered the sit-in protesters 21 goods-laden trucks, which were stranded at the border point, have entered Nepal. However, no fuel tankers have entered Nepal through the point. Meanwhile, Morcha leaders said that cadres are gathering at the border point and the sit-in protest will continue.
