People from different walks of life staged a rally in the Capital on Wednesday, urging the government to find a solution to the political unrest in Tarai. “We want a decisive end to the hardship people are suffering as a result of political turmoil in Tarai,” said Advocate Subin Mulmi. Actors Santosh Panta and Basundhara Bhusal, singer Yogeshwor Amatya, rights activist Anuradha Koirala, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries Pashupati Murarka, and civil society leader Daman Nath Dhungana, among others, were present in the rally organised by Stakeholders for Harmony.

A statement issued by the group urged both the government and the agitating Madhesi leaders to find a solution through talks while considering the hardship faced by the public as a result of political deadlock. Meanwhile, Gahiti Youth Club of Thamel staged a sit-in outside the Indian Embassy in Lainchaur against the unannounced border blockade by India. Around 150 youths congregated outside the embassy compound in the morning and urged the Indian authorities to withdraw the blockade at the earliest. They also urged the Nepal government to maintain good ties with the Indian government. Jafar Hussein, the club’s president, said that the government of Nepal should take the diplomatic initiative to resolve the problem of border blockade.
