Provide relief to quake victims immediately, SC tells govt

Supreme Court has ordered the government to provide relief to earthquake victims immediately. A single bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha on December 29 issued an order in the name of the government to present a progress detail within seven days after providing relief to victims of April 25 earthquake and aftershocks. The apex court, ruling on the writ petition filed by two, including advocate Madhav Basnet, on December 28, reminded the government of its duty to save from reaching a situation of the humanitarian crisis. Saying that the earthquake victims were struggling in the cold winter due to lack of relief materials and were at a harsh condition, the court told the government to provide food, cloth, medicine and other materials immediately which are required to save people from reaching such risky situation of the humanitarian crisis. Advocate Basnet had demanded writ of mandamus to provide relief materials immediately to quake victims suffering from cold. Nepal government, Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers were made defendants in the writ.
