Police arrested a man from Jhalaripipaladi-1 municipality of Kanchanpur on the charges of attempting to rape a girl by posing as a witch doctor. 31-year-old Ganesh Nepali was arrested by the police for reportedly trying to rape a girl from Jhalaripipaladi-7 by taking her to the Shuklaphant wildlife reserve on the other side of Syali river. The girl had agreed to follow Nepali to the jungle after he promised her of ridding her of her dizziness and headache by warding off the evil spirit inside her. Upon reaching the jungle, Nepali first made the girl take off her clothes and then attempted to rape her by forcefully making her sit on his lap. The girl ran away and told about the incident to her relatives, following which the relatives lodged a complaint at the police. Nepali was arrested on the basis of the same complaint. He is being held in custody at District Police Office Kanchanpur for further investigation.
