NHRC Begins Detailed Investigation into Rangeli Incident

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has deployed a high-level team of experts to investigate the killing of civilians during Madhes movement at Rangeli and Dayaniya of Morang on January 21. NHRC member and spokesperson Mohana Ansari, NHRC member Govinda Sharma Paudyal, Regional Director Kosh Raj Neupane, Human Rights Officer Shyam Babu Kafle and Kailash Kumar Shivakoti has begun its investigation into the incident from February 3. A high-level team of experts deployed by the NHRC has already reached the incident sites on February 3 to probe into the killing, informed Spokesperson Ansari. According to Ansari, the team is now taking statements from the Administration Chief, Chiefs of Security Agencies and eyewitness on the incident. Dropadi Devi Chaudhary, 60, of Chopada Tole, Maha Dev Shreedev of Bardanga-2 and Shibu Majhi of Dayaniya-9 were killed in the police action on January 21. The statement issued by Acting Secretary of the Commission, Ved Prasad Bhattarai, states that NHRC has initiated a detailed probe into the incident after the victims were found innocent during preliminary monitoring and the Rangeli incident is against the human rights violation.
