Chameli Shrestha, 26, of Puranagaun VDC-1, Ramechap has been forced to live in a protection centre for last five months. Her family expelled her from the house after she became pregnant. She was expelled from the house on October 20, 2015. She gave birth to her daughter on October 26 at the hospital. Chameli, who has three children, complained that her husband, Gore Shrestha, 30, prevented her from meeting her nine-year-old son. Her family refused to take her home following the birth of a new baby. Women Saving and Credit Cooperative, Puranagaun’s Chairperson Hira Giri along with other women had kept her in the company’s protection for ten days since October 27. According to Hira Giri, they then relocated her to a shelter for women affected by the quake which is supported by UNICEF. The victim said that she does not have any documents including marriage certificate, citizenship certificate, and her children’s birth certificates. She also complained that her husband refused to make her a citizenship certificate. According to Chief District Officer of Ramechap district, Sesh Narayan Poudel, a citizenship certificate can be issued to her only if her close relatives verify their marriage.
