The Dalits of Sarada Municipality-7, Okhreni are deprived of water facilities even though water is supplied to the houses of non-Dalits by laying pipes directly from the well. Due to non-Dalit coercion, Dalits are forced to drink contaminated water from ponds or rivers. 40 Dalit families in the lower and upper villages of Okhreni are affected by the drinking water problem. ‘We didn’t have access, they discriminated against us by force,’ said Vic, a local boy. He said that the residents of Dalit slums are forced to drink water from Chharikhola. "Even though we were agitated to get water, they forced us," "We have access to water in their homes but the water is shut from the source and does not flow to our houses," she said. Earlier, everyone used to take water stored in the same tank and drink it, but now there is a problem of not releasing water in Dalit settlements, said Sarita Pariyar. She said that water was not allowed to accumulate even in the tanks of the Dalit settlement as the pipes were connected from the source. He said that he could not buy the pipes and take them home as his financial condition was weak. Dalit women have stated that there is a problem with the lack of water. According to the locals, the source is at risk as it has been taken to a non-Dalit settlement by installing pipes.
