Locals of Maharajgunj protested against the government's decision to demolish their houses in the name of development by warning them through a press conference held on March 24. Stating that they have already given their lands without the government's compensation to build the ring road in the past, they will not be able to give land under any circumstances now.
The Council of Ministers had decided to acquire the area where houses were built on the Maharajgunj ring road by setting aside 135 meters to the east and 109 meters to the west. But demolition work was halted after the Supreme Court issued an interim order not to acquire the lands.
