Family forced to live in social exclusion since 12 years

A couple of Asrang VDC in Gorkha has been living in social exclusion for the past 12 years after their son married a girl of the so-called lower caste. Tanka Bahadur Khadka and his family have been barred from attending any social activities in his community for the last 12 years. The incident came to be known publicly only after the couple filed a complaint at the local police station saying that they felt insecure and it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to live in the society under the threats of the community. Only recently they were not even allowed to enter the temple for cleaning purpose while they were performing "Kulyan Puja" in their home. Some people from the community warned that they could face consequences if they tried to enter the temple. The couple lodged complaints to the police only after they felt very unsafe. They used to save the money monthly for the occasion but they were not allowed to save the money. He has asked for taking necessary action against social exclusion according to the law and provide a favorable environment for conducting the occasion. In the complaint filed at the police, Tanka Bahadur has named Yan Bahadur Khadka, the Main priest of "Kulayan Puja" Rolak Bahadur Khadka, Padma Kumari Khadka, Krishna Bahadur Khadka, Dal Kumari Khadka as the perpetrators who were subjecting his family to social exclusion.
