A man murdered his wife after she declined to transfer the ownership of a motorcycle to him. Prakash Mandal of Mithila Bihari Municipality-4 killed his 22-year-old Kusum Mandal. Kusum's father-in-law took the dead body to the hospital, claiming to recover her body hanging from the ceiling. However, he had absconded thereafter.
Kusum's family side claimed the issue of dowry as the cause of the murder. "The son-in-law had pressurized us to transfer the ownership of the bike time and again, but we could not make that happen because of the financial constraints. He expressed his frustrations over this matter by killing her", Kusum's father said.
Kusum and Prakash tied their marriage knot a year and a half ago. Kusum's family side had given Prakash dowry in forms of two lakh rupees, an Apache bike, some grams of gold and 15 tola silver. Police have arrested Prakash and have started the investigation process, said SP Sekhar Khanal, the DSP of Dhanusa District Police. "It is unclear, as of now, whether the cause of death was suicide or murder", he further added.
