Local administration picketed by sand laborers in Dhading

A dozen sand workers from Gajuri Rural Municipality picketed the District Administration Office at Nilkantha, Dhading on August 9 picketed the District Administration Office demanding the lift on the ban to extract the sand from the Trishuli River.

They handed over a memorandum to Chief District Officer Asman Tamang and said that it would be inappropriate to ban sand extraction since workers make a living from the extraction done for 3 consecutive months. The workers have been selling sand at Rs 5,500 per tipper. 

Due to a lack of safety equipment and life insurance of the workers, the District Security Committee has banned the extraction of sand during the rainy season from the Trishuli River since July 31.
