In the Terai and border districts of India, there is a growing trend of raping girls under false pretences of getting married. The police have also become active after the practice of mocking marriage, attempting rape, and having sexual intercourse continued.
Meanwhile, Parsa police have arrested a youth for raping girl under false pretences to get married. The arrestee is Anil Kushwaha, 22, of Birgunj Metropolitan City-31.
Anil Kushwaha had even promised to marry a 19-year-old girl of the village when she reaches the age of 20. However, the victim's father had lodged a complaint against Anil at the police station after he came to know that Anil, who was married to another girl, had repeatedly raped the girl by inviting her to a secluded place in his house and village. Police arrested Anil on the basis of the same complaint. According to Parsa Deputy Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Khanal, the case has been registered against Anil.
