Daily wage workers of Rampur Agriculture Campus on protest for past two weeks

2021-09-12

Bagmati, Chitawan, Bharatpur

Around 65 daily wage workers at the University of Agriculture and Forest Sciences, Rampur's Faculty of Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries have been protesting for the past two weeks, demanding contract appointments. They have been agitating for the right to work as employees by being hired on a contract basis. Mina Poudel, an agitator, claims that Rampur University is forcing them to do extra work against the university's rules.

Dr Hom Bahadur Basnet, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries, on the other hand, stated that the protest of the daily wage workers is unjustified because it is the University's and the Government of Nepal's policy to keep the daily wage workers working only as service contracts and not as employees.
