Police on Sunday arrested two individuals on the charge of ill-treating the principal of a school due to his so-called lower caste.
Bal Bahadur Roka, 35, and Tijendra Jugjali, 30, of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-5, were arrested on the charge of misbehaving with and beating up Resham Bahadur Bishwakarma, principal of Janajyoti Basic School of Bhedikhalta. Both the arrestees were at large after thrashing Principal Bishwakarma on April 18.
Police expedited search for the culprits following a complaint filed by the victim, according to Police Inspector Dhruba Prasad Sharma. Reportedly, during a meeting of the School Management Committee organized at the house of Parbati Purja, chairperson of the committee, Jugjali and Roka made many demeaning and derogatory remarks against Principal Bishwakarma for his "lower caste" origin. Apparently, they did not just misbehave with him but also beat him up in front of everyone.Inspector Sharma further added that the court has given them five days to investigate the case. The incident came to light only after a week. Those involved in the incident will be sent to one year in prison and fined up to Rs 100,000 for promoting caste-based discrimination if their crime is proved.
