Province 1, Jhapa, Birtamod

Tea workers across the country have started protests by stopping work indefinitely since Sunday. They have warned that they will not return to work until their demands are met.

Three thousand workers who came to Chandragadhi, the headquarters of Jhapa, today, demanded that the government should immediately implement what it had promised six months ago. The Nepal government had previously assured the total of Rs. 385 rupees daily, including Rs. 231 basic wage and Rs. 154 inflation allowances, to tea workers.

President Deepak Tamang of Nepal Tea Garden Workers' Union has called the government's attention as the government failed to implement the wage rate after the government's talk with tea entrepreneur.
