Workers of Sino Hydropower Project staged a sit-in at the project office at Rishing Village Municipality-1, Jhaputar, Tanahun demanding for the PCR test of all workers on October 11 after the corona infection was confirmed in one worker. According to project chief, they have been protesting without clear demands since the afternoon despite the agreement to test the PCR of the workers who were in close contact with the infected was made on Sunday morning.
Sino Hydro started the work under package-two of the powerhouse after the completion of the ' cable tunnel' of the Tanahu Hydropower Project under construction at Rishing-1 Jhaputar. The work of 188-meter long tunnel for the construction of the school was completed some time ago. Sino won the contract for construction of cable tunnel, powerhouse and supply of hydro and electro-mechanical equipment under package two of the project.
For the project, 140 meters dam, 1162 meters and 74 meters main tunnel, 89 meters length, 22 meters width and 44 meters height underground power house will be constructed. The project with a net height of 121 meters will generate 178.90 MW in dry season and 323.68 MW in rainy season. The total cost of the project is US 505 million (including transmission line, rural electrification and construction period interest). JICA will bear 184 million for the work under the second package
