The local peace committee in Baitadi district has received 500 complaints from conflict victims by Monday night. According to the committee, 436 complaints are related to cases of disappearance while 64 complaints are related to the truth and reconciliation commission. As the deadline for filing the complaints nears, the committee has been receiving more complaints in recent days. According to the council, until last week, they used to receive about five complaints daily on an average. “The number at present has increased to about 40 to 50 complaints in an average per day,” said Jayanti Kunwar, secretary of the council. “Some conflict victims are not confident that they would receive justice, while others have expressed strong hopes,” said Ganesh Thakurathi, chief of Swatantrabichar Manch. Victims who missed the deadline for any reason can file their complaints until six months before the expiry of the TRC's deadline.
