Human Rights Activists and Conflict Victims Arrested

Kathmandu/April10 Police have arrested human rights activists, civil society members and conflict victims who were protesting in front of South gate of Singhadurbar against the bill on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry on Disappearance registered by the government in Legislature yesterday. Demonstrators held the sit-in protesting the bill have provision to grant amnesty to perpetrators of serious human rights violations. Sushil Pyakurel, a former Commissioner of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nepal and founder of INSEC, Human Rights Activists Charan Prasai, Dinesh Tripati, Kanak Mani Dixit, Civil Society leader and Journalist, Sabitri Shrestha, Conflict victim including 20 people were arrested by Police and are kept at Metropolitan Police Division, Singhadurbar. Sit -in program was launched demanding to respect the decision given by Supreme Court for Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Inquiry on Disappearance, provide justice to the Conflict victims, and end impunity. Banners used in sit-in-program by the activists were torn out by Police.
