Kathmandu/May 13 The police, on May 13, have arrested a former Maoist cadre Puskar Gautam who was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Okhaldhunga district court in connection with the murder of Ujjan Kumar Shrestha during the armed conflict. The arrested former Maoist cadre, Gautam, has been sent to Sundhara Central Jail. He was taken to Kathmandu district court immediately after his arrest. The Okhaldhunga district court had slapped life imprisonment with confiscation of property against Gautam along with Bal Krishna Dhungel, former Constituent Assembly member from the UCPN-M, for their involvement in killing of Shrestha, a resident of Okhaldhunga. Shrestha was killed on the night of June 24, 1998. The apex court had upheld the district court's order. Dhungel is in the absconding list of police. Shrestha's elder sister, Sabitri, had been struggling since 15 years to bring the culprits to justice. The government was preparing for amnesty for Dhungel but the apex court, after hearing the writ petition filed by Sabitri, had stayed amnesty against Dhungel.
