Kathmandu/ May 13 The Accountability Watch Committee (AWC) has said that the bill on Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Enforced Disappearances endorsed by the President cannot ensure the rights of victims. A press statement issued on May 13 by AWC said that its serious attention was drawn towards the pro-impunity provisions in the recent endorsement of the act regarding the formation of TRC and CED. The statement signed by AWC Chairperson Sushil Pyakurel said that the ministers, parliamentarians and major political parties were given written recommendations in many occasions for the amendment of faulty provisions of the bill. The statement further said that the law is a step towards granting impunity to the perpetrators of extra judicial killings, enforced disappearances and torture brought by disregarding the Supreme Court verdict and obligation of implementing international law; and neglecting the recommendation and lawful demand of conflict victims, human rights activists and civil society.
