Teachers stage sit-in in Chitwan demanding pay

2020-11-22

Grant teachers working in community schools staged a peaceful sit-in at the District Education Development and Coordination Unit, Chitwan on November 22 due to non-receipt of salary during the crisis even after eight months of the academic year.

The non-payment of their salaries is due to non-disbursement of funds at the local level even after the allocation of grants in the budget and programs of the current fiscal year 2020/21.They accused government for squandering the future of millions of student by withholding the amount of teaching-learning grants in difficult situations like Corona. They complained for not receiving salaries even on the main festivals of Nepal.

The struggle committee demanded that the salary allowance for the entire academic session 2020 should be provided immediately, the teaching-learning assistance grant should be continued to the teachers working in the past, and the teachers under the grant program should be provided service facilities as specified by the Government of Nepal. There are more than 4,000 teachers in the grant quota and more than 70 in Chitwan.
