Kapilbastu Victims Await Justice

Kapilbastu, Pidit le nyaye napaeko gunaso. Victims of Kapilvastu incident have complained that the state has not delivered justice to them. The victims participating in the program on September 15 at Chandrauta to commemorate the incident that occurred in the district on September 16, 2007 said that they would even go to international court if they did not get the justice from the Supreme Court. Physical and human loss, including rape, loot, arson attack and murder had taken place in Chandrauta, Krishnapur, Ganeshpur, Bisanpur and Chanai VDCs following murder of Moit Khan on September 16, 2007. At least 10,000 people were displaced, 14 people were murdered within three days and 8 hundred shops and 160 vehicles were destroyed during the incident. The victims remember September 16 as a black day. The government had formed a separate high level investigation committee to probe the incident, however no report were made public. A writ was lodged at SC two years ago by the Struggle committee after the commission handed over the report to the government demanding compensation and action against the guilty. However, the case remains pending till now.
