Ganga Maya Ends Hunger Strike

Ganga Maya Adhikari of Phujel, Gorkha, who was staging a fast-unto-death at Bir Hospital for last 357 days demanding action against the murderers of her son, has ended her hunger strike in the initiation of human rights activists. Minster for Law Narahari Acharya fed her Horlicks, ending her strike on October 18. According to INSEC Chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel, Ganga Maya agreed to take medicine and fluids in the initiation of rights activists. "Ganga Maya was ready to take Horlicks, glucose and oral rehydration solution 'Jeevanjal' to 'get justice'. She has said that she would not be taking food. Quoting Ganga Maya, Pyakurel said that she ended her strike to struggle for action against the murderers of her son by staying alive. Ganga Maya was handed over a letter signed by acting secretary of Ministry for Peace and Reconstruction Khumraj Punjali in the presence of rights activists and Minister Acharya after she ended her strike. As per the letter, the government would now fight for her justice, final rites of her husband Nanda Prasad would be performed with respect, steps would be taken to bring the accused said to be staying in Britain to Nepal, among others, said Pyakurel. The then Maoist cadres had shot dead her youngest son Krishna Prasad at Bakulahar chok after abducting him on June 6, 2004 while he had gone to Chitwan to meet his grandparents. Ganga Maya's husband Nanda Prasad had passed away in Bir Hospital on September 22, 2014 while staging hunger strike demanding action against the murderers. His body is kept at the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
