Balkrishna Dhungel denied clemency, to be jailed

The Supreme Court has ruled for the arrest of former UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Bal Krishna Dhungel, denying him clemency on Thursday. Hearing the case today, a division bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Shreshtha and Justices Gopal Parajuli and Om Prakash Mishra issued a verdict to arrest former UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Dhungel. Sabitri Shrestha, Ujjen's elder sister, moved the SC seeking implementation of the court's order to sentence UCPN (Maoist) leader Dhungel to life imprisonment for the 1998 murder of Ujjain Shrestha of Okhaldhunga. The Supreme Court had convicted Dhungel in Ujjan´s murder in 2010. The apex court had sentenced him to life imprisonment along with confiscation of his properties.The victim´s family and rights activists had long been demanding punishment for Dhungel.
