Families of victims of enforced disappearance have said that they would not get justice until those involved in such acts are brought to justice by criminalizing disappearance.
In an interaction program organized by Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons at Inaruwa, Sunsari, family of disappeared person demanded the identification and punishment of those involved in the act of disappearance. They demanding enactment of law to criminalize such act.
According to former chairperson of Society of Disappeared Persons' Family Rupesh Shah, the victim’s family would not get a sense of justice until the culprits are punished by formulating laws. He added that even if the CIEDP recommended punishment, there is no law towards taking action against them.
In the program, CIEDP member and spokesperson Dr. Bishnu Pathak said that the commission is working to find whereabouts of disappeared persons and make provisions of punishment for the culprits.
According to INSEC documentation, 15 people of Sunsari district were forcefully disappeared during the course of armed conflict.
