Conflict victims demand security for filling complaints

2016-04-18

Ilam’s conflict victims have admonished to file complaints only if transitional justice mechanisms, i.e., Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Commission for Investigation on Enforced Disappearance People (CIEDP) ensure privacy and security. The commission has devised to collect the application from conflict victims through the office of Local Peace Committee. As the local peace committee is a commixture of various members of political parties, the victims are suspicious about trusting them. Thus they have refused to file complaints. The conflict victims organized a workshop titled Human Rights Defenders’ Situation on April 18, in which they demanded the commission to ensure reliability, privacy and security before collecting complaints. They also appealed human rights activists to take necessary initiatives for them. According to the Committee Coordinator of Dwanda Pidit Sarokar Samaj Mechi zone Damodar Chapagain, the conflict victims do not feel secure while filling the complaints so, he requested the stakeholders to turn their attention towards the problem. District Human Rights Activists, Legal Professionals, Press, Security Personnel and conflict victims were present in the event.
