Funeral services held by the missing family after the state stopped hearing

2017-09-04

The families of the victims have been forced to bury their dead after the state started ignoring the people who went missing during the People's War. The family of Binod Chaudhary of Udasipur-7 in Kailali has performed slave rites. They have chosen this path after the state did not listen to the demands of the missing families who have been asking for corpses.

Binod was reported missing by the then Royal Army on May 23, 2002. After pleading with the state for a decade but no hearing was held, Binod's family conducted the funeral rites yesterday and today, Monday and Tuesday. Even the then rebel Maoists, when the government was in power, have not been able to confirm the death of the missing families and have resorted to slavery. The victim's family has prayed for peace and cremated Vinod's soul. The family of Prachanda, the leader of the People's War and Chairman of the Maoist Center, has said that they have done the traditional thing on their behalf as they are disappointed that the government will come to power after they stopped hearing about their relatives.
